FANTASY BASEBALL ‘09
I love baseball. I love fantasy baseball. Regardless, I made a vow to only be in one fantasy league this year. Any more would eat up way too much time, get confusing to follow and come at a price tag Obama would deem “irresponsible”. This was my solemn vow. How I ended up in three is still a mystery.

Draft #1. Twelve dudes crammed in a room pontificating on Arod’s return and exactly how early is too early to take a closer. No better way to kick off a season than a live draft. Note: 42” plasma turned electronic draft board on left. Nice touch, commish.
And now, the keys to a Noggle ‘09 win.

First pick: Johan Santana. Arguably the best pitcher in baseball, but the status of the lefty’s ailing elbow could be a major factor. When healthy, he dominates. Not to mention the much-boltstered Met bullpen that should help his win total improve from last year.

Second pick: Carlos Beltran. Should I be worried that my top hitter swings with his eyes closed? Beltran needs to put up big power and RBI numbers and steal a couple bags a week. If rumors are true that he’s batting second, I could be in trouble.

Third pick: Brian McCann. The first catcher taken overall needs to be as durable and offensively potent as he was last season. Losing Teixiera should move McCann into the clean-up slot which should translate into a numbers boost.

Fourth pick: Brandon Phillips. The potential 30/30 guy needs to, well, be a 30/30 guy.
Other notables: Chipper Jones, Derek Jeter, Edinson Volquez, Kerry Wood, Torii Hunter, Joey Votto, Milton Bradley and Aaron the Harangatan.
Will post an update at the All-Star break. I’m sure you’re all very excited.
